Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra has assigned the capital city to organize the events, the government news portal reported.
The directive was announced at a meeting on Monday to prepare for the first Vietnam Cultural Day, which will be held alongside National Great Unity Day in 2026.
A week of cultural activities will take place nationwide from November 18 to 24.
The deputy prime minister said 2026 would mark the first year of implementing the Politburo's Resolution No. 80 on cultural development and the first time Vietnam Cultural Day is observed on November 24.
She asked relevant agencies to make thorough preparations so the event would become a nationwide celebration in which people can participate in cultural activities and enjoy cultural values.
Hanoi was assigned to organize the special arts program and concert, with an expected audience of around 60,000.
The city must ensure the event is engaging and maintain security and safety, she said.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is preparing a series of activities, including a national cultural conference expected to take place in November.
Other events include an arts exhibition on the development of Vietnamese culture amid international integration during the 2021-2025 period, film activities, the Vietnam Sounds 2026 program and the Vietnam Cultural Experience Journey 2026 communications campaign.
The Vietnam Cultural Digital Map platform is being piloted and is expected to be launched nationwide on November 1, the ministry said.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra said linking Vietnam Cultural Day with National Great Unity Day would help create a series of cultural activities across the country and bring them closer to people's daily lives.
She called for efforts to establish the event's significance from its first year, with the goal of making November 24 an occasion that people look forward to and actively participate in every year.
She also urged museums, libraries, theaters, cinemas, historical sites, scenic attractions and other cultural facilities to expand public access.
These venues were encouraged to extend opening hours and offer free or discounted admission where appropriate, particularly on November 24, so more people could access and experience cultural activities.
