The Hanoi Public Transport Management Center on Tuesday announced that the trial use of virtual tickets is in preparation for a new ticket pricing policy for the two metro lines.

These virtual tickets will be linked to users' personal identification accounts, displayed on mobile phones, and include details such as full name, date of birth, usage period, ticket code, transport type, route number, and ticket status.

The Hanoi Public Transport Management Center noted that using virtual tickets will help reduce ticket issuance costs.

Additionally, virtual tickets are immediately valid after successful registration, offering convenience to users in purchasing tickets and tracking personal travel history.

How to buy virtual metro tickets

Steps to register and use virtual daily or weekly tickets on the Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Nhon – Hanoi Station metro lines:

1. Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and download the 'The ve giao thong HN' (Hanoi transport ticket) app.

2. Enter your phone number and OTP code to register an account. After successful registration, log in with the registered phone number and password.

3. Select 'Register and Buy Ticket,' then choose user category, ticket type, and transportation mode of 'Metro.'

4. The system will display input fields according to the ticket type. Select the appropriate ticket type: daily or weekly.

5. Make payment by scanning the QR code using a mobile banking app according to the selected ticket and pricing policy.

6. The system will confirm successful registration and payment. Users can begin using their virtual tickets immediately.

7. At the station, present the virtual ticket in the 'The ve giao thong HN' app to staff and receive a boarding pass if the ticket is valid.

A valid ticket will display the following information on the user's phone screen:

- A dynamic QR code that changes every 30 seconds with a blinking Tramoc logo.

- Passenger information, including name, date of birth, usage period, and ticket code.

An invalid ticket will not show a dynamic QR code with the 30-second countdown.

Metro fare increases from August 1

Ha Noi Metro, the operator of the two metro lines, previously announced that metro fares for the Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Nhon – Hanoi Station lines will increase starting August 1.

The highest fare on the Cat Linh – Ha Dong line will be VND19,000 (US$0.7) per trip, an increase of over 26 percent from the current rate.

The new fares apply to single-ride, daily, and monthly tickets on both metro lines.

Two new ticket types—weekly and long-term passes—will also be introduced.

Group tickets will be discontinued as of August 1.

Free ticket policies remain unchanged.
