Hanoi welcomes 5.3mn int’l tourists in January-July

The capital welcomed more than 21 million tourists in the seven-month period, according to a report from the Hanoi Department of Tourism on Wednesday.

Total tourism revenue reached an estimated VND86 trillion (US$3.28 billion) in the same period.

Compared with the same period in 2024, all key indicators, from visitor numbers to tourist spending, increased more than 10 percent.

In July alone, the city welcomed an estimated 3.16 million tourists, up 11.3 percent year on year.

International arrivals topped 666,600, including around 470,000 visitors who stayed overnight. Total tourism revenue for the month was estimated at VND12.3 trillion ($468.4 million).

The municipal Department of Tourism reported that the city currently has more than 3,700 accommodation establishments with over 72,400 rooms.

Its lodging options range from five-star hotels and high-end serviced apartments to homestays, catering to different types of travelers.

The average occupancy rate at hotels in July was estimated at 58 percent.

Hanoi remains a must-visit destination for international travelers exploring Vietnam.

Over the past few years, the capital has sought to develop and diversify tourism products so that it can become not only a stopover or transit destination but also a city worth exploring in its own right.

Recently, UK financial and commerce platform MoneySuperMarket ranked Hanoi among the world's top two cities with the friendliest customer service.

In 2026, Hanoi aims to welcome more than nine million international visitors and over 27 million domestic tourists, contributing to the overall growth of the industry.
