Hanoi Children’s Hospital, the first of its kind in Vietnam's capital city, officially opened on Wednesday.

The hospital is a major project for Hanoi during the 2020-25 period and was inaugurated to mark the 70th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day on October 10.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, vice-chairwoman of the Hanoi administration Vu Thu Ha explained that the hospital took two years to build and is meant to care for, protect, and improve the health of children in the capital and neighboring localities.

The Hanoi administration asked the municipal Department of Health and other relevant agencies to continue working with Hanoi Children’s Hospital to hire staff and purchase equipment.

The hospital will advance scientific research and training, develop specialized technical services, and provide access to advanced healthcare techniques.

Hanoi Children’s Hospital, situated on Nguyen Trac Street in Yen Nghia Ward, Ha Dong District, includes a six-story building and a basement with a total floor area of 34,364 square meters.

Covering 6,700 square meters, the hospital costs VND785 billion (US$31.6 million) to build.

It currently has 200 beds but that number is expected to increase to 500 after 2024.

The hospital has put a particular focus on digital transformation in governance, operations, and medical treatment.

Patients can register for medical checkups on-site or online via its website, Facebook page, and app.

The hospital's staff includes top doctors from major institutions in Hanoi, like the Vietnam National Children's Hospital, Xanh Pon General Hospital, and Hanoi Medical University.

This new facility is expected to alleviate the burden on the Vietnam National Children's Hospital and enhance healthcare for children in Hanoi and nearby regions.
