Phan Cong Bang, head of MAUR, made the statement on Sunday while inspecting progress along the entire line, which runs from Ben Thanh Station in the city center to Tham Luong Station in the northwest.
Work has included relocating power lines, water supply, telecommunications, and other underground systems that are intricately woven beneath the roads, posing considerable difficulties.
As the metro runs through densely populated streets with heavy traffic, most construction is carried out at night to minimize disruption to daily activities.
In addition, the developer is using BIM (Building Information Modeling) to detect conflicts early among the underground systems and develop the most appropriate relocation plans.
“There are locations that are extremely complex and involve multiple managing agencies, so all parties must prepare detailed construction plans to shorten the timeframe and avoid disrupting electricity and water supplies to residents,” Bang said.
He affirmed that teams are accelerating their work to complete the relocation soon, enabling the metro’s groundbreaking in December 2025 as planned.
To support the acceleration effort, MAUR has established a dedicated task force that promptly reports any onsite issues to ensure immediate resolution.
Bang also noted that while underground work has reached approximately 60-percent completion, land clearance aboveground has been substantially finished.
With a total investment of nearly VND47.9 trillion (US$1.83 billion), the metro line No. 2 project spans over 11km, including about 9.2km underground and the remainder elevated.
The project was originally scheduled to be completed by 2026, but various issues have pushed the timeline to 2030.
The city’s first metro system—the 19.7km Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien route—officially began service on December 22, 2024, after nearly 12 years of construction.
