Ho Chi Minh City among top affordable destinations for American tourists: Expedia

According to Expedia, along with early planning, cost is a key factor influencing travelers’ choice of destinations for trips in 2026.

Data from this online travel platform shows destinations with average hotel room rates below VND3.9 million (US$150) per night are considered budget-friendly options for international tourists.

In the United States, affordable destinations are often smaller cities or secondary hubs where hotel prices tend to be lower.

International destinations on the list include cultural and historic centers as well as vibrant culinary cities.

Noticeably, Ho Chi Minh City is the only destination in Vietnam included on the list.

Expedia said the city has long been a popular choice for travelers for its diverse street food, lively nightlife and relatively affordable costs.

In Asia, Bangkok (Thailand) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) were also mentioned on the list alongside Ho Chi Minh City.

Earlier, the U.S travel magazine CN Traveler also described Vietnam as one of the destinations offering great value for money.

With a daily budget of about VND2.6-3.9 million ($100-150), travelers can enjoy experiences that cost up to three times as much in many European countries.
