Local residents and visitors to the Dam Sen Cultural Park in Ho Chi Minh City will be able to enjoy a sky full of kites every Sunday from now until the end of July.
The 2018 Summer Kite Festival is one of the new activities the District 11-based amusement park is organizing to celebrate the summer vacation.
The event, running every Sunday from June 24 to July 29, showcases kite performances by members of the local Sao Vang club.
The festival will treat visitors, especially children, to a marvelous scene of hundreds of kites in various shapes, from sea creatures to Superman, flying in the sky.
The organizers also set up a ‘kite-building’ zone for visitors to learn how to make a kite with help from artisans and necessary tools and equipment available for free.
The artisans will guide children and visitors to make and decorate their own kites as souvenirs, and continue to help them fly their own kites.
One of the highlights of the festival is the performance of artisan Pham Van Tam, who is capable of flying four kites at a time, a technique known as ‘3D Kite.'
Tam will give visitors a special performance in which the four kites will fly up and down, rotate, and chase each other, corresponding to the background music.
The kite-flying artist will have four performances every Sunday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, depending on the weather.
Two international songs will be played during each ‘3D Kite’ performance. This year’s festival will also feature Live It Up, the official song of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Tam said he is invited to showcase his four-kite performance at international kite festivals in Vietnam.
