More than 120 bus routes, covering about 1,900 vehicles, have already been equipped to accept bank cards, e-wallets, QR codes, and other contactless payments, the city’s Department of Construction said.
Authorities expect all subsidized bus services to adopt cashless payment systems before June 2026.
The expansion follows a partnership between the city and Mastercard to develop digital payment systems and related services in urban transport.

Separately, Apple Pay’s Express Mode was introduced on metro line 1, which runs between Ben Thanh Station and Suoi Tien Terminal, on Wednesday, allowing passengers to tap devices at fare gates without unlocking or authentication.
The construction department, which is also responsible for transport management, said the system shortens transaction times, particularly during peak periods, and reduces reliance on cash.
