As dengue fever, a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus, spreads rapidly throughout Ho Chi Minh City, local authorities are applying several strategies in the fight for a mosquito-free environment.

The Preventive Medicine Center of Ho Chi Minh City launched a pesticide spray campaign to kill mosquitoes and their larvae in many districts over the weekend.

The spraying mainly focused on areas filled with water and bushes where mosquito eggs develop into adult dengue mosquitoes.

Nguyen Thanh Tai, a resident of District 2’s Cat Lai Ward, said his children have had to stay inside the mosquito net to avoid being bitten, especially during the rainy season when mosquito larvae develop rapidly.
