Ho Chi Minh City leaders observe a minute of silence for victims of the COVID-19 pandemic at the inauguration of Park No.1 Ly Thai To in Vuon Lai Ward on February 12, 2026.
A destination for locals during the coming Lunar New Year break, the park located at 1 Ly Thai To, Vuon Lai Ward, is one of nine key projects aimed at placing green space and community areas at the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s new super-urban development strategy.
Revival and continuity
To implement the project, the city mobilized private-sector resources, with Sun Group fully funding the VND263 billion (over US$10 million) investment and directly overseeing construction.
Consulting units from both Vietnam and abroad were invited to ensure aesthetic quality, technical standards, and the project’s humane value.
Construction was carried out around the clock without interruption. At peak times, up to 500 workers were mobilized.

The park was officially inaugurated on the evening of February 12, 2026.
According to the investor, the triangular land plot has been developed into a park located within a key green landscape axis of the city.
Amid the bustle of a densely populated metropolis, the park resembles a small forest, offering a quiet green space and a completely different atmosphere.
To soften the sharp corners of the triangular site, designers rounded its edges and placed a circular plaza at the center of the park, with the highlight being the Droplet Monument.

The plaza hosting the Droplet Monument serves as the focal point of the park.

The Droplet Monument is installed along an east–west axis.
Inspired by the image of a falling droplet, the design portrays it striking the ground and forming a hollow in the earth, like a scar etched into the soil.
It serves as a reminder of the painful period endured by Ho Chi Minh City residents at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As the droplet shatters upon touching the earth, ripples spread outward, symbolizing transformation.
Grief and loss were held together by the community, who united to overcome hardship and look toward a better future.
The water drop sculpture presents a tear of gratitude, love, and compassion.
Hidden within the droplet sculpture is a heart symbolizing the care, solidarity, and protection people offered one another during the darkest days.
Thanks to that heart, the tear does not dissolve into despair but radiates into new ripples, symbolizing revival and continuity.

The Droplet Monument symbolizes a tear of gratitude, love, and compassion, with a heart embedded inside representing the care and solidarity people shared during the darkest days of the pandemic.

The Droplet Monument, measuring 13 meters in circumference and 6 meters in height, is made of mirror-finished stainless steel reflecting visitors’ images, conveying the message that no one is alone in grief.
A park with a special mission
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Nguyen Van Duoc, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, called on attendees to pause and remember those who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the city paid solemn tribute to doctors, medical workers, officials, soldiers, and volunteers who set aside their personal lives to fight the pandemic and protect residents.
Duoc described the Park No.1 Ly Thai To as profoundly meaningful and humane, a place for residents to return, remember, and cherish.
The park conveys three messages: revival, community spirit, and a future-oriented vision.
He expressed appreciation to agencies, Sun Group, and the construction and consulting teams for completing the meaningful project within 90 days, as well as to residents for their consensus and trust.

Nguyen Van Duoc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, became emotional at the ceremony.

The land plot at 1 Ly Thai To, bordered by Ly Thai To, Hung Vuong, and Tran Binh Trong streets, was previously abandoned and severely deteriorated. Seven old villas inside the compound, once badly damaged with cracked facades and broken gates, have now been renovated and restored.

The Droplet Monument is illuminated at night.
