Ho Chi Minh City will officially inaugurate its Tam Thang Square in the coastal ward of Vung Tau to mark the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day on September 2.
Located in the Bai Sau beach area of Vung Tau, Tam Thang Square is part of a 3.2-kilometer renovation project along Thuy Van Street and Bai Sau, the largest investment in Vung Tau Ward to date, designed to serve local residents and boost tourism.

Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group announced that it funded both the design and construction of the project, with total investment reaching VND155 billion (US$5.8 million).
The project was designed by Italian architect Oliviero Godi and a team of international design experts.
Their proposal was selected through a competition to choose the design concept for Tam Thang Square.
The construction was completed in time for a special art program celebrating the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).
According to Ho Chi Minh City’s committee for major holidays, Tam Thang square will be the venue for the “Independence Star” art program on the evening of September 2, featuring light shows, musical fountains, and a combination of mapping and laser performances.

Covering more than 17,000 square meters on the seaside, the Tam Thang Square also incorporates a musical fountain stage spanning 5,800 square meters, along with a tiered stage designed to host large-scale events and festivals in Vung Tau.
Dry fountains covering about 665 square meters are arranged along the roadside, creating a lively and colorful public space.
The project’s centerpiece, Tam Thang Tower, consists of 143 pillars ranging from 4.55 to over 34.25 meters in height, arranged in ascending levels toward the sea.

Its overall design draws inspiration from the image of three powerful ship prows rising skyward, symbolizing the historic tale of Thang Nhat, Thang Nhi, and Thang Tam – three villages entrusted with safeguarding the coastal area during the reign of Emperor Gia Long.
The pillars weigh several thousand tons in total, with the tallest one alone reaching 104 metric tons.
In addition to its inspiring concrete column structure, the Tam Thang Tower also delivers a striking visual effect through its mosaic tile surface, which shimmers as it reflects sunlight and artificial lighting.
