The initiative made the city the first locality in Vietnam to apply advanced market research technology to its tourism strategies.
The barometer is meant to enhance the efficiency of tourism promotion and foster sustainable growth based on solid data insights.
According to the center, such a strategic tool focuses on predicting the travel intentions and readiness of visitors from major international markets.
It also regularly updates insights into traveler behaviors, preferences, and perceptions of Ho Chi Minh City as a destination.
The system aims to support the city’s tourism sector in improving marketing effectiveness and maintaining a competitive edge.
It is expected to operate as a comprehensive, annual traveler intelligence platform, providing deep insights into visitor dynamics.
In 2025, the barometer will focus on 13 key international markets on a trial basis, including South Korea, Japan, Australia, China, Europe, the United States, Canada, and Southeast Asia.
Apart from forecasting travel demand and intention, tracking changes in tourist behavior, and measuring the city's brand image and communication effectiveness in each market compared to regional competitors, the barometer will gather data early in the decision-making period of potential travelers.
Nguyen Cam Tu, director of the center, said that pioneering a system that forecasts and monitors international tourist markets, Ho Chi Minh City is solidifying its position in tourism and in innovation and technological application to tourism development.
She expected the move to drive comprehensive improvements in the industry, from operational strategy to destination branding.
