The municipal administration was set to submit a revised resolution on the investment plan for the construction, renovation, and expansion of the street, along with the development of the green park at the sixth sitting of the municipal council slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Under the city’s proposal, total investment will increase to over VND 5.5 trillion, up over VND3.35 trillion ($127.6 million) compared with the original plan approved in 2016.

Of the total, some VND4 trillion ($152 million) will be used for site clearance.

The project will be funded by the state budget.

The surge in investment stems from adjustments to the project’s scope and scale, as well as updated unit prices and norms in line with current regulations.

Compensation and land-clearance costs have also risen due to revised project parameters and changes in pricing required under the 2024 Land Law and other legal guidelines.

The Ton That Thuyet Street upgrade covers a length of 3,423 meters and a width of 26 meters, connecting Ben Van Don Street in Vinh Hoi Ward with Truong Dinh Hoi Street in Xom Chieu Ward.

The project will also include the construction of a new bridge across Nguyen Kieu Canal, and embankment works along Te Canal and a section of Nguyen Kieu Canal.

Other components are new docking points for inland waterway transport and passenger boats, with one location planned for every kilometer, as well as drainage systems, wastewater pipelines, technical infrastructure, lighting, and the creation of a green park.

Construction is expected to continue through 2029.

Urgent need to expand Ton That Thuyet Street

Transport connectivity between the former Districts 4, 7 and 1 remains limited.

Meanwhile, Ton That Thuyet Street is currently only seven or eight meters wide, lacks sidewalks, has incomplete technical infrastructure, and frequently experiences congestion and traffic safety risks.

The underdeveloped infrastructure also weakens the area’s investment appeal and hampers local development.

Expanding Ton That Thuyet Street and building a green park along Te Canal are considered both essential and urgent.

The project is expected to improve traffic capacity, ease pressure on major routes, and support the formation of a new transport axis once synchronized with the Nguyen Khoai Bridge-Road project.

Besides, the project will help complete planned infrastructure, upgrade the canal-side urban landscape, and create new public spaces for residents.
