Ho Chi Minh City police receive 47 Vietnamese citizens deported from US

The handover took place at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, with immigration officers and local police coordinating the process.

Most of those deported had previously lived in Ho Chi Minh City before moving to the U.S., where they violated residency regulations or local laws.

After completing legal procedures, U.S. authorities transferred the deportees to Vietnam under bilateral cooperation agreements.

The Ho Chi Minh City police department said that the increasing number of deportees reflects stricter immigration policies and tougher enforcement of residency violations in several countries, including the U.S.. 

The reception process was carried out in accordance with Vietnamese law, ensuring both diplomatic requirements and humanitarian principles.

Authorities said they are committed to maintaining public order while protecting the legal rights of returning citizens.

For deportees without family support, stable housing, or facing hardship such as old age, poor health, or long-term disconnection from relatives, local police will coordinate with ward-level authorities and the city’s Department of Health to provide temporary care at social support centers.

The city’s police department urged Vietnamese citizens to strictly comply with host country laws when studying, working, traveling, or settling abroad.

The department warned against illegal entry, residence, or employment, as well as using fake documents or participating in human smuggling networks.

Violations can lead to arrest, fines, deportation, or bans on re-entry, while also damaging the reputation of the Vietnamese community overseas.

The department also called on the public to show understanding and help deported citizens reintegrate into society.
