Ho Chi Minh City revives stalled safari park project

The administration of An Nhon Tay Commune, Ho Chi Minh City has officially invited investors to participate in the long-delayed Saigon Safari project, an eco-tourism and wildlife conservation complex that has remained idle for more than two decades despite being licensed in 2004.

The project site covers more than 456 hectares, most of which has already undergone land clearance and compensation procedures.

Of the total area, about 440.2 hectares are designated for the safari park itself, including 384.2 hectares for core functional zones and 55.9 hectares for shared-use areas.

Another 16.6 hectares lie outside the main park zone.

Under the approved planning scheme, the Saigon Safari project is envisioned as a large-scale ecological tourism park featuring wildlife conservation, breeding and research facilities for rare animal species from Vietnam and around the world.

The project is also planned to include entertainment areas and resort villas, aiming to become a major eco-tourism destination contributing to Vietnam’s tourism growth.

Authorities said the project is designed with open functional zones and carefully organized sub-areas to ensure environmental sanitation in animal habitats, traffic connectivity and safety for tourists and nearby residents.

Investors interested in the project have been invited to contact the An Nhon Tay Commune People’s Committee.

Investors may also propose additional projects or land plots beyond those already listed by the commune’s administration.

Relevant agencies were asked to coordinate investment promotion activities and prepare procedures needed to accelerate the project.

The Saigon Safari project was first licensed in 2004 but has struggled for years to attract investment, leaving the vast site largely abandoned and unused for 22 years.

The project is listed under the municipal administration’s Decision No. 2301, which was issued in mid-April this year and identifies 250 investment projects across the city for the 2026-30 period.

The city’s investment list prioritizes high-tech, innovation, digital economy, green economy, and circular economy projects, alongside tourism and services.

The Saigon Safari Park belongs to the commerce-services-tourism group of projects.
