Ho Chi Minh City seeks green light to hold fireworks displays to welcome 2023

There were three fireworks venues in previous years

The Ho Chi Minh City administration is seeking approval from the central government to hold fireworks displays in Thu Duc City and District 11 for 15 minutes on New Year’s Day.

The plan, pending the prime minister’s approval, has one venue fewer than previous years.

Once green-lighted, it will see fireworks light up the sky over the entrance of the Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City and above Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 11 from 0:00 to 0:15 on January 1, 2023.

Funds for the displays will be sourced from private sponsors.

A countdown event will precede the fireworks displays at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park, in the Nguyen Hue pedestrian zone, and on Le Duan Boulevard on New Year’s Eve, according to a celebration plan announced by the municipal Department of Culture and Sports last month.

Seventeen other cultural and entertainment events will also be organized to usher in 2023 and celebrate Vietnam’s Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
