The Traffic Police Division under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security reported 28 road traffic accidents, including minor collisions, over the holiday period, leaving 12 people dead and 16 injured.
Compared with the same period in 2025, the number of crashes fell by six, or 18 percent, while fatalities dropped by nine, or 43 percent.
No traffic accidents were reported on railway or inland waterway routes during the nine-day break, according to Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper.
Over the period, traffic police handled more than 10,200 traffic violations across the city.
Officers impounded five cars, 4,636 motorbikes, and 301 other vehicles, issued more than 970 fines based on camera footage, revoked 950 driver’s licenses, and deducted points from 1,641 licenses.
They also processed 4,798 alcohol-related violations and 23 drug offenses, and penalized four overloaded vehicles.
A representative of the division said a peak campaign had been launched to maintain traffic order and safety before and throughout the holiday.
Traffic conditions were closely monitored on key routes and in major areas to ensure smooth travel for residents returning home and attending festive events.
The city’s traffic control center operated around the clock, processing information from surveillance cameras, radio channels such as the Voice of Vietnam and the Voice of Ho Chi Minh City’s People, hotlines, and the monitoring system on National Highway 1.
Additional personnel were deployed during New Year’s Eve fireworks displays and at major attractions such as the city’s flower street, book street festival, and spring flower markets to maintain order in crowded areas.
The division said it will continue coordinating with relevant agencies and residents to strengthen traffic safety efforts, step up patrols and inspections, and strictly handle violations in the coming months.
