Ho Chi Minh City sees fewer traffic deaths, injuries in first half of 2026

As many as 811 traffic accidents occurred in the southern metropolis during the first half of the year, resulting in 418 deaths and 426 injuries, the division announced at a mid-year review conference on Monday.

Compared with the first half of 2025, the number of accidents fell by 185 cases, or 19 percent, while fatalities declined by 73 people, or 15 percent, and the number of injured victims dropped by 150, representing a 26-percent decrease.

According to the division, traffic order and road safety across the city remained stable during the period, with no incidents of severe or prolonged traffic congestion.

On the city’s road network, traffic police intensified inspections and enforcement operations, particularly on high-risk routes and during peak travel periods, to improve traffic discipline and safety.

As a result, officers handled more than 685,000 traffic violations in the first half of the year.

In addition, the force detected 152 cases involving criminal activity and other offenses related to public order, economic crimes, and illegal drugs.

Addressing the conference, Colonel Nguyen Dinh Duong, deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Public Security, highly valued the efforts made by the city’s traffic police in maintaining road safety and improving traffic conditions during the first half of 2026.
