Speaking at a meeting on Tuesday, Nguyen Ha Nguyen, deputy chief of the department’s office, said schools may arrange for students to be off from January 1 to 4, 2026.
As New Year’s Day falls on a Thursday, schools are encouraged to extend the holiday through the weekend.
To ensure academic progress, the missed Friday (January 2) can be made up through online learning, Nguyen noted.
Most schools in the city have already scheduled the first-semester exam for the 2025-26 school year in mid-December, meaning students will complete all tests before the holiday begins.
The department also highlighted ongoing efforts to accelerate digital transformation in teaching and school management.
By 2025, Ho Chi Minh City aims to deliver at least 35 percent of its educational content through online platforms.
