The final round of a Vietnamese beauty pageant will be held in Ho Chi Minh City this August, the organizing board said on Tuesday.
Organizers Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper and Sen Vang (Golden Lotus) Ad Agency announced at a press conference in the city that the Miss Vietnam 2016 grand finale will be organized on August 27.
There will be about 40 contestants chosen for the final round, the organizing board said, adding that Miss Vietnam 2016 will be crowned and presented with VND500 million (US$22,435) while the first and second runners-up will receive VND300 million ($13,461) and VND200 million ($8,974), respectively.
Alongside the major awards, winners will also be announced in categories as diverse as Miss Talent, Miss Beach, Miss Ao Dai, Miss Beautiful Face, Most Voted Miss, Miss Party Dress, Miss Beautiful Hair, and Miss Humanity, the organizers said.
This year's pageant will include new content and contribute more to the community, with the final round highlighting charity projects of each contestant, according to the organizing board.
The finalists will then give presentations about their projects, with their activities broadcast on multiple TV channels.
VND500 million will also be donated to a fund for young Vietnamese talents managed by the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the organizing board said.
They also added that the preliminary and semi-final rounds are slated for July.
The contest will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television (VTV), the state’s public broadcaster.
The biennial event was initiated in 1988 by Tien Phong not only to improve young women’s role in national development, but also to create opportunities to dignify Vietnam’s cultural potential, traditions and history as well as promoting the country’s image and people among international peers during the integration process.
