Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday inaugurated the renovated Le Loi Boulevard, a key downtown thoroughfare, following nearly 20 days of work to upgrade infrastructure and revitalize the city center ahead of New Year celebrations.

The opening ceremony was jointly organized by the municipal Department of Construction and Khang Dien House Trading and Investment JSC, the project's sponsor and developer.

The project, one of the city's priority urban improvement efforts, runs through Saigon Ward and Ben Thanh Ward, two of the busiest areas in the city center.

The event was attended by chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc, along with representatives of the construction department, the two wards, Khang Dien, and other businesses.

Vuong Van Minh, general director of Khang Dien, said the company began sponsoring and implementing the project on December 5, after receiving approval from the municipal authorities, and completed it on December 23.

The works included upgrading sidewalks and median strips along a 527-meter stretch, as well as refurbishing and repainting around 70 adjacent townhouses and 80 apartment units lining the boulevard.

Minh described Khang Dien's involvement in urban renovation as a responsibility rather than a purely social activity, citing the company's long-standing ties with Ho Chi Minh City.

He noted that in 2024, Khang Dien partnered with the city to sponsor and implement several features at the Saigon River waterfront park, contributing to landscape improvements and expanding public spaces for residents.

Building on that experience, Minh said the company proactively proposed the Le Loi Boulevard renovation this year, as many buildings along the route had deteriorated and no longer matched the image of a modern urban center.

Duoc described the project as a pioneering model of collaboration between the state, businesses, and the community, stressing that procedural challenges in any project can be overcome with strong commitments from all stakeholders.

He praised Khang Dien for delivering a project that meets public expectations, enhances the appearance of a central thoroughfare, and helps create a more positive atmosphere for residents as they welcome the new year.

Duoc also praised other businesses—including Sun Group, Vingroup, Son Kim Group, and several banks—for supporting the city's social welfare and urban beautification efforts through both visible and behind-the-scenes initiatives.

He added that he hopes the Le Loi Boulevard renovation will help spread a broader spirit of partnership, encouraging departments and localities across the city to promote similar initiatives so that its wards become more orderly and attractive.

Such efforts, he noted, would also support the city's goal of ranking among the world's top 100 most livable cities by 2030.

Looking ahead, Minh said Khang Dien hopes to further participate in urban renovation and public space upgrades, particularly at iconic central locations that also serve as cultural and tourist attractions, such as the Ben Thanh Market area and Nguyen Hue and Dong Khoi Streets.

Welcoming the proposal, Duoc affirmed the municipal administration's strong support for such initiatives.

Representatives of several major companies attending the ceremony, including Orient Commercial Joint Stock Bank and Son Kim Group, also expressed their willingness to accompany the city in urban renovation efforts to enhance residents' quality of life.

In response to proposals from the businesses seeking to sponsor additional projects, Duoc instructed relevant departments to expedite procedures, stressing the importance of flexible support and minimizing unnecessary administrative steps.

At the ceremony, he presented certificates of merit to collectives and individuals who made outstanding contributions to the project, including representatives from the construction department, Saigon and Ben Thanh Wards, and Khang Dien.
