An official from the Thoi An Ward People's Committee told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that the ward had officially launched a traffic monitoring program to curb frequent violations along Ba Du Street, formerly known as Thoi An 03 Street.

The official noted that the street has long been plagued by vehicles stopping and parking unlawfully, obstructing traffic flow.

Despite previous efforts to encourage compliance, including installing no-parking signs, the problem has persisted, the official said.

To enhance enforcement, the ward is now using footage from residents' security cameras, enabling quicker detection and response to violations.

“Most of the roads in the ward are equipped with surveillance cameras, but until now they have been primarily used for recording," the official said.

“This initiative aims to actively monitor and enforce traffic regulations."

The ward is piloting the program on Ba Du Street and plans to expand it to other streets in the coming time.

Ba Du Street connects Le Van Khuong Street to Le Thi Rieng Street, running through an area densely populated with factories and transport companies.

Truck traffic is common on the street, adding to congestion and raising the urgency for better traffic management.

Notices and banners have been placed along Ba Du Street to alert drivers that the area is under active camera surveillance and that parking violations will be penalized.

The campaign is meant to promote urban order, raise public awareness about compliance with the road traffic law, improve road safety, and reduce disruptions to local residents caused by illegal parking.

Over 400 cameras installed in downtown ward to prevent pushy peddlers

Cau Ong Lanh Ward in downtown Ho Chi Minh City has deployed a network of more than 400 surveillance cameras to deter and penalize street vendors who persistently approach tourists, obstruct the tourists’ path, and aggressively promote their products.

The dense camera coverage is focused on high-traffic public areas, where such activities are more likely to occur.

Local police have been instructed to identify additional hotspots where new cameras may be installed to strengthen public security.
