Water rose quickly along Bui Vien in Ben Thanh Ward, forcing restaurants and bars to block entrances to keep water from pouring inside.

Bui Vien, together with nearby De Tham and Pham Ngu Lao Streets, is known as Ho Chi Minh City’s 'backpacker street' for its vibrant nightlife and popularity among international travelers.

The heavy rain overwhelmed drainage systems, leaving motorbikes and cars struggling to move through flooded sections.

Residents reported difficulties commuting and conducting daily activities in the city center.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting recorded 89.2 mm of rain at the Co Bac station, located near the flooded sections of Bui Vien, on Wednesday afternoon.

Flooding was also reported on several other streets, including Dinh Bo Linh Street in Binh Loi Trung Ward and D5 Street in Thanh My Tay Ward, making it difficult for vehicles to pass.

Authorities urged residents to monitor weather conditions, avoid heavily-flooded roads, and exercise caution when traveling during heavy rain.
