The patient was admitted in critical condition with severe shortness of breath caused by acute respiratory failure.

According to Dr. Do Van Pham, head of the hospital's intensive care and toxicology department, the woman's pneumonia had advanced to the point of infecting vital organs such as the liver and kidneys, leading to life-threatening multi-organ failure.

The situation was further complicated by her chronic conditions, including asthma, diabetes, and hypertension, which caused dangerously high blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

"Her risk of death exceeded 50 percent upon admission," Dr. Pham said.

Doctors immediately provided oxygen therapy, antibiotics, blood pressure medication, and insulin to stabilize her condition.

Intensive supportive care helped restore oxygen flow to her organs and prevent further deterioration.

After her condition stabilized, the patient was transferred to the hospital's general department for continued monitoring.

"We focused on stabilizing her blood pressure, blood sugar, and respiratory function while providing physical therapy to help her gradually regain strength," said Dr. Le Trong Nhan from the general department.

After seven days, her fever subsided, breathing improved, and vital signs returned to normal.

She then began physical therapy and was advised to continue follow-up care after returning home to manage her chronic diseases.

"The service here is excellent," said the patient, identified as S.P..

"I feel very safe being cared for at this hospital.

"The facilities are modern, the rooms comfortable, and the doctors and nurses are friendly and attentive."

Dr. Pham warned that pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide and that people with chronic conditions should seek medical attention early instead of self-medicating.

Dr. Nguyen Phi Hung of Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital said the case highlights the challenges foreign travelers face when falling ill abroad.

"We make sure our international patients receive clear communication, accurate diagnosis, and compassionate care so they feel as secure as when they are at home," he said.

Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital, accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International, has served patients across the Mekong Delta and neighboring provinces for many years.
