Hundreds of tonnes of marine waste wash ashore at popular Vietnam beaches

Rubbish has piled up along the shores of Nhat Le and Bao Ninh beaches in Dong Hoi City, forming large stretches of debris that span hundreds of meters.

The trash includes water hyacinths, tree branches, plastic bags, bottles and household waste, said Tran Duy Khanh, director of the city's public service management unit.

The waste began accumulating after storm Wutip in early June and continues to wash ashore daily, adding to the volume despite ongoing cleanup efforts.

"We are mobilizing maximum manpower and machinery to remove the debris," Khanh said.

"Hundreds of workers are involved, but the amount is overwhelming."

The pollution is affecting both the environment and tourism at the height of the summer travel season.

Nhat Le and Bao Ninh are among Quang Binh Province's most visited beaches.

Local authorities have called on additional agencies and volunteers to support cleanup operations and restore the area's appearance for tourists.
