The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Development Management Board and the An Khanh Ward People’s Committee, on Saturday held a tree-planting launch ceremony at the Thu Thiem riverside park in An Khanh Ward to mark the first Vietnam Tree Day on January 11.

The event was held in line with the government’s policy on strengthening the management and development of urban greenery, waterfront parks, and the 'For a Green Vietnam' movement.

Under Decree No. 258/2025/ND-CP, which takes effect on October 9, 2025, January 11 is officially designated as Vietnam Tree Day.

At the ceremony, Le Ngoc Linh, deputy director of the municipal Department of Construction, called on organizations and groups to actively participate in tree planting, protect parks and green spaces, and raise public awareness and responsibility among city residents.

Linh said the enthusiastic response to the tree-planting activity along the Thu Thiem riverside park on Saturday would serve as a meaningful starting point for Ho Chi Minh City’s tree-planting movement in 2026 and the years to come.

Nguyen Xuan Quynh, vice-chairman of the An Khanh Ward People’s Committee, said the Thu Thiem riverside park is not only a recreational space but also a 'green lung' for the area.

Planting more trees contributes to building a sustainable ecosystem and creating a greener, cleaner urban landscape for An Khanh Ward in particular and Ho Chi Minh City as a whole.

Nguyen Xuan Quynh, vice-chairman of the An Khanh Ward People’s Committee, calls on residents to act as active advocates in planting and protecting trees.

“Every resident, official, and officer should act as an active advocate for environmental protection,” Quynh stated.

“Tree planting is not only about planting, but also about taking responsibility for caring for and protecting the trees we grow, with the spirit that every planted tree must be nurtured to thrive.”
