In one week, organ donations save 21 patients at Hanoi hospital

Viet Duc University Hospital in Hanoi successfully transplanted donated organs into 21 patients from January 6 to 11.

The hospital called on four families of patients declared brain-dead to donate their organs to 15 others in need of life-saving transplants.

Meanwhile, six other patients underwent kidney transplants from living donors at the hospital in the same period.

This is the first time the hospital has recorded the number of organ transplants within one week, marking a new milestone for the Vietnamese health industry.

Of the 15 people who received organs from brain-dead donors, four had heart transplants, seven got new kidneys, three received liver transplants, and one patient was transplanted with both a kidney and a liver.

The four families of those declared brain-dead faced their grief with bravery, choosing to give the invaluable gift of life to others in need.

Post-surgery, the patients' conditions have stabilized.

Duong Duc Hung, the hospital director, noted that numerous lives have been saved, and the hospital's organ transplant capabilities have advanced greatly due to these donations.

"From 2025, we will offer priority cards for medical examinations and treatments to the parents of organ donors as a profound thank you," Dr. Hung announced.
