In Vietnam, traffic police say will verify viral video of man allowing young girl to drive car

The Traffic Police Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will quickly investigate a video showing a Vietnamese man letting a young girl, about 10 years old, to steer a car.

Strict penalties will be imposed if any violations are found, said an officer.

The footage, which surfaced on local social media on Monday, showed the car traveling at a speed of 50-60 kilometers per hour as the girl was taking control of the vehicle.

In the nearly-one-minute clip, the man encourages the girl by saying, “B. is driving the car and taking your dad somewhere, alright? You’re steering so well. That’s awesome.”

The video has sparked widespread concern, leading authorities to take swift action.

The Traffic Police Department stated that an investigation would be launched to verify the authenticity of the video and identify potential violations.

In late January, the department worked with the Department of Public Security of Thai Binh Province in northern Vietnam, levied a fine on L.N.L., 44, for posting a video showing his 12-year-old son driving a car.

Though the video was filmed while the car was being towed, it caused public confusion and concern.

As such, he was fined for spreading false information.
