The crash occurred at around 6 p.m. as the two Indian men were riding a motorbike from downtown Da Lat toward Ho Chi Minh City, according to initial information.
Their identities were still being verified by local authorities.
As the motorbike reached a bend near Datanla Waterfall in Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward, it skidded and crossed into the opposite lane before colliding with a car traveling uphill in the other direction.
One of the two Indian tourists died in the crash.
The impact severely damaged the motorbike, which became wedged against the front of the car, while debris was scattered across the road.
Heavy rain was falling at the time, leaving the road surface wet and slippery.
Traffic police arrived at the scene and directed vehicles to move slowly through the pass to prevent congestion.
Authorities continued examining the scene that evening as they investigated the exact cause of the accident.
Prenn Pass stretches about 7.4 kilometers along National Highway 20 and serves as a major southern gateway to Da Lat, connecting the popular tourist city with the Lien Khuong-Prenn Expressway and routes to southern Vietnam.
The mountain pass is a key route for tourists traveling to Da Lat from the south.
It underwent a major upgrade and expansion costing more than VND550 billion (US$20.8 million), widening the road from two to four lanes.
Prenn Pass runs through mountainous terrain with steep slopes and has faced landslide risks, particularly during periods of heavy rain. Local authorities have recently carried out reinforcement and other measures at vulnerable sections to improve traffic safety.
