Indonesian naval ship docks at Ho Chi Minh City port for 5-day visit

The Indonesian Navy’s KRI Bung Tomo - 357 corvette, with 86 crew members on board, arrived at Nha Rong Port in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, beginning its five-day port call in Vietnam.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen The Hung, deputy brigade commander and chief of staff of Brigade 171 under Vietnam’s Naval Region 2, hosted a welcome ceremony for the ship and its crew.

The reception was attended by representatives from the External Affairs Department of the Vietnam People’s Navy, the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, and naval officers from Brigade 171’s Ship 17.

The visit aims to enhance mutual understanding and trust, strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two navies.

The Indonesian officers aboard are scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to the High Command of Naval Region 2.

During their stay, the naval forces of both countries will conduct joint exercises at sea as part of their second joint training session of the year, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

These exercises are designed to improve collaboration in addressing maritime challenges, develop joint operational procedures, and support peace, stability, and cooperation at sea, in line with international law and mutual respect for sovereignty and maritime rights.

The Indonesian delegation will also participate in meetings and exchanges with Vietnamese naval personnel, visit historical sites and attractions in Ho Chi Minh City, and engage in friendly football and volleyball matches with Vietnamese naval units.
