The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that localized heat was recorded in the northern part of the country on Tuesday, while central provinces experienced broader high temperatures.
At 1:00 pm on Tuesday, temperatures reached 35-36 degrees Celsius in many places, with some hotspots even higher such as Ha Giang Province’s Bac Me District, Quang Tri Province’s Dong Ha City, and Phu Yen Province’s Son Hoa District at more than 37 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday, localized heat may persist in the north with highs exceeding 35 degrees Celsius in some places.
A broader heatwave is forecast for Thursday, with temperatures commonly between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius and some areas surpassing 37 degrees Celsius.
As for the central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, widespread heat is expected between Wednesday and Thursday, with several areas facing extreme heat at 35-38 degrees Celsius and possibly higher.
The heatwave is projected to last until Friday.
From Friday evening through Saturday, the northern and north-central regions may experience showers and scattered thunderstorms, with some locations expecting downpours, triggered by a weak cold front.
Rain is forecast to ease on Sunday.
In the central and south-central regions, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible from Saturday evening through the middle of next week, before conditions improve after May 15.
Across the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam, the next 10 days could feature mostly sunny days, with some areas experiencing hot weather conditions.
Late afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely, with the potential for localized downpours, strong winds, lightning, whirlwinds, and hail.
