The growth underscores the Vietnamese capital’s rising appeal among global travelers and reinforces its position as one of the country’s key tourist destinations.
A report released by the department on Wednesday showed that Hanoi served over 18 million tourists between January and June, rising 15.7 percent year on year and meeting over 50 percent of the full-year target.
Domestic tourism also continued to expand, with an estimated 13.37 million local travelers visiting the capital, an increase of 12.3 percent year on year.
The city’s tourism revenue reached an estimated VND74.23 trillion (US$2.8 billion) during the first half of the year, up 19.1 percent from the same period in 2025.
Average hotel occupancy stood at 65.6 percent, reflecting sustained demand across the hospitality sector.
The latest figures highlighted Hanoi’s growing attractiveness to both domestic and international markets.
The city is home to over 3,760 lodging facilities with more than 71,200 rooms.
The municipal department attributes Hanoi’s success to its rich cultural and historical assets.
Hanoi’s international reputation has continued to strengthen in 2026.
Travel platform TripAdvisor ranked the city as the second most popular destination in Asia in its Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations 2026 awards.
Hanoi was also placed fourth among the world’s top 25 destinations, seventh among the leading cultural destinations, and 11th among the best culinary destinations globally.
These accolades help promote Hanoi as a safe, attractive destination with a distinctive cultural identity while further enhancing its standing on the regional and international tourism map.
Hanoi aims to welcome more than nine million international visitors and 27.27 million domestic travelers in 2026.
The city will continue to tap such tourist source markets as China, South Korea, and India, while promoting domestic tourism during the second half of the year.
