Japan sends teachers to support Japanese language classes at 18 Ho Chi Minh City schools

The Japanese teachers will serve as co-instructors alongside Vietnamese teachers who officially teach Japanese, with a view to improving students’ language proficiency.

All were selected by Japan and sent to Vietnam under the Nihongo Partners program, coordinated by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, the Embassy and Consulate General of Japan in Vietnam, and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

The Japanese teachers will stay throughout the school year in the current Ho Chi Minh City, which is a merger of former Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province as part of a major restructuring drive in which Vietnam's provincial-level administrative units were reduced to 34 from 63, effective from July 1.

In former Ho Chi Minh City, schools participating include Le Quy Don High School, Marie Curie High School, Trung Vuong High School, Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Le Quy Don Middle School, Hai Ba Trung Middle School, and Vo Truong Toan Middle School.

Four schools in former Binh Duong and seven in former Ba Ria-Vung Tau are also part of the program.

This academic year marks the 12th term of the initiative, which covers all costs through Japanese funding.
