Japan to boost support for content industry

The plan comes as the country aims to triple overseas revenue from Japanese content to 20 trillion yen in 2033.

As part of the plan, the government is considering raising the upper limit on the industry ministry's subsidies for video products costing 300 million yen or more from 200 million yen at present.

The South Korean government set aside some 76.2 billion yen in funding for content promotion overseas in 2023.

California, home to Hollywood, provides generous subsidies and tax credits to content production.

In Japan, the government has allocated some 25.2 billion yen to support the content industry in the latest year, an amount that experts say is not enough to step up overseas promotion.
