Largest metro station ready for commercial operation in Ho Chi Minh City

The station promises a modern and convenient experience for both residents and tourists

Ben Thanh underground station - the largest station on metro line No. 1 - has been completed after years of construction, marking a significant milestone for the launch of Ho Chi Minh City’s first metro line into commercial operation.

The station is strategically located in the heart of District 1, serving as a key transit hub for metro line No. 1 while also connecting with future metro lines No. 2, 3A, and 4.

With a modern, multifunctional design, the station features four underground levels, reaching a depth of approximately 32 meters. 

It spans 236 meters in length and 60 meters in width.

The first floor houses the main lobby, ticket counters, and control gates. 

The second floor is dedicated to the train platforms, equipped with a state-of-the-art rail system. 

The remaining two floors are reserved for technical facilities, commercial spaces, and passenger amenities.

Recent observations by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirm that Ben Thanh underground station is ready for commercial operation, promising a modern and convenient experience for both residents and tourists.

Ho Chi Minh City’s metro line No. 1 is 19.7 kilometers long and stretches from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City.

It includes 2.6 kilometers of underground urban rail link, 17.1 kilometers of elevated track, and carries a price tag of VND43.7 trillion ($1.7 billion).

The line has a total of 17 trains, each capable of accommodating 930 passengers, including 147 sitting and 783 standing.

Construction on the metro line began in 2012.
