Logs of street trees pending auction suffer sun, termite damage in Ho Chi Minh City

Hundreds of logs cut from trees felled in Ho Chi Minh City have been damaged by termite attacks and prolonged exposure to the sun and rain, while waiting to be put up for auction.

A team of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters spotted the bad conditions of the logs during their recent visit to an area in the outlying district of Hoc Mon, where the tree trunks are gathered together.

The reporters discovered that lots of logs suffered severe termite damage, making them most likely unusable, even though the municipal Department of Construction is arranging an auction to put them up for sale.

Units responsible for taking care of city street trees normally report those with defects or diseases to the department’s Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Management Center for cutting them down.

The logs are then transported to gathering areas managed by Ho Chi Minh City Greenery Parks Company.
