According to planning studies, about 70 percent of passengers using Long Thanh International Airport are expected to travel to Ho Chi Minh City.

Until railway and metro projects are completed, the Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh Expressway will serve as the primary transport route from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport.

The expressway expansion, developed by the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), has maintained steady progress.

Nearly 10 months after construction began in August 2025, the project has entered its peak construction phase.

The Ho Chi Minh City–Long Thanh Expressway expansion project has a total investment of VND14.945 trillion (US$570 million), with the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) as the investor. The project will widen the expressway from four lanes to 8-10 lanes, including the construction of an additional five-lane Long Thanh Bridge. Photo: Thuan Van

Construction crews are working around the clock along the route, with multiple work fronts operating simultaneously.

Major bridge piers and approach spans of the new Long Thanh Bridge have risen above the Dong Nai River.

The project consists of two main construction packages. Package XL02 has reached about 55 percent completion, while Package XL01, which includes Long Thanh Bridge, Song Tac Bridge, and elevated sections, has exceeded 60 percent.

The investor and contractors are working to keep the project on schedule.

Under current plans, the expressway expansion is expected to be substantially completed in December 2026.

The main span of Long Thanh Bridge is scheduled to be connected by the end of 2026, with the remaining works to be completed by March 2027.
