A man who provides hoverboard renting services on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in downtown Ho Chi Minh City apologized American online streamer and YouTuber IshowSpeed and reimbursed him on Sunday after ripping him off the day before.

The service supplier made the moves after he was summoned by police officers on Saturday.

Officers in Ben Nghe Ward, District 1 ordered two men to come to a police station for questioning on Saturday night after a video showing them allegedly overcharging the rapper went viral on social media.

The two men were then identified as V.P.Q.M., 23, who lives in District 4, and N.M.H., a 53-year-old dweller in District 1.

They admitted that M. charged IshowSpeed VND1 million (US$40.8) to rent a hoverboard at around 5:30 pm on Saturday, while H. acted as an interpreter.

At 6:35 pm the same day, the two men were summoned to the police station for questioning over their act of fleecing the foreigner.

On Sunday morning, Ben Nghe Ward police fined M. VND10 million ($408.2) for "illegally using roadbeds and sidewalks for self-balancing board rentals and for leasing goods without clear origins."

Officers also confiscated his hoverboards and ordered M. not to repeat his violations.

As H. was identified as M.'s friend and not directly leasing hoverboards, he was not penalized.

The duo came to a hotel where IshowSpeed is staying to offer an apology to the streamer.

A representative of the well-known American rapper accepted the apology and happily got the money back.

IshowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., live-streamed his visit to Ho Chi Minh City, including an incident where he was fleeced when renting a hoverboard on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, on Saturday.

During the live video, which had 169,000 viewers, a man initially quoted him $100, but later charged him VND1 million when he went to pay to use the service for a few minutes only.

The rental of a hoverboard in Ho Chi Minh City ranges from VND30,000 ($1.22) to VND50,000 ($2.04) per hour.
