Manhunt in full force for Vietnamese man who allegedly drowned two children

Authorities believe the incident was a botched homicide-suicide

Authorities in the southern Vietnamese province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau are on the hunt for a man believed to have drowned his two young children, after their bodies were found near a local beach.

Local police units initiated a manhunt for Nguyen Truong Quan, 28, a resident of Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, on Thursday evening.

Earlier that day, residents in Vung Tau, a popular beach city in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, discovered the body of an infant boy inside a backpack near a recycle bin along Ha Long Street, adjacent to the Dua Beach.

The body of a little girl was later discovered near the same beach.

Police officers identified the two victims as 10-month-old Nguyen Truong A. and two-year-old Nguyen Tran Tuong V., both children of Quan.

An autopsy revealed drowning as the cause of death in both cases.

According to family members, they received a text message from Quan on Thursday afternoon asking them to travel to Vung Tau City and bring home the bodies of the two children.

The text also stated that Quan had planned to commit suicide along with his two children at the beach.

However, the man ended up being unharmed while his children drowned.

He also apologized to the family for causing the deaths of his son and daughter.

Quan has neither been seen nor heard from since the message.
