Massive iridescent clouds spotted in Hanoi sky

Massive clouds hovered in the sky over Hanoi on Thursday, thrilling residents who eagerly snapped photos and shared them on social media.

The magnificent clouds emerged for about 15 minutes, starting at around 4:40 pm.

The phenomenon, known as 'cloud iridescence' or 'irisation,' occurs in clouds and presents vibrant colors near the sun or moon.

Cloud iridescence is caused by water droplets or ice crystals in the cloud diffracting light around the outside of the droplet, as opposed to bending the light through it.

Hoai Anh, a resident of Bac Tu Liem District, said she saw the iridescent clouds while waiting at a red light at the intersection of Hoang Quoc Viet and Nghia Tan Streets.

Iridescent clouds were also seen in the Hanoi sky on Wednesday afternoon.
