At the city’s socio-economic press briefing on Thursday, a representative from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said the city has been working closely with neighboring provinces, especially Dong Nai, to advance key transport links to the underway Long Thanh International Airport.
6 major road projects
There will be six major routes connecting directly to the airport.
The largest is the 206km Ring Road 4 project, designed with four lanes.
The project is in the investment preparation phase and is scheduled to get off the ground in June 2026, with completion slated for 2028.
The five other route projects, with a total length of about 238 kilometers, are under construction.
These include:
– Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway: slated for completion in December.
– Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway, expected to finish in September 2026.
– Expanded Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway, with overall completion planned for 2026, while Long Thanh Bridge will be finished in the first quarter of 2027.
– Ring Road 3: at least 30 kilometers is expected to open to technical traffic in 2025, while full completion is set for June 30, 2026.
– Provincial Road 25C: a section of 7.6 kilometers has been completed, while a stretch of 6.4 kilometers is under construction and scheduled for completion this year.
Railway plans to enhance connectivity
For national railway development, the Ministry of Construction is preparing investment for the North–South high-speed rail line, scheduled to start work at the end of 2026 and to be completed by 2035, along with the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau rail line.
Ho Chi Minh City has also assigned Becamex to study the Bau Bang – Cai Mep railway, with the goal of starting construction in 2027 and completing it before 2035.
3 metro corridors
Three metro corridors will play a key role in linking Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh International Airport.
The first corridor includes metro line No. 2 and the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh metro link.
In mid-November, the Ho Chi Minh City administration announced that the city’s second metro line, which runs from Ben Thanh Station in the city center to Tham Luong Station in the northwest, will officially get off the ground on January 15 next year.

The second corridor is metro line No. 6, which is set to run from Tan Son Nhat International Airport through Phu Huu Interchange and then connect with the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh metro line.
The city plans to start work on the Tan Son Nhat – Phu Huu section in 2026.
The third corridor involves metro line No. 6 connecting with Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line No. 1, and an extended section linking Dong Nai’s new administrative center and Long Thanh International Airport.
Ho Chi Minh City will oversee metro line No. 6, while Dong Nai Province will build the extension of metro line No. 1, with both expected to be complete by 2030.
The city’s first metro line began commercial operations in December last year.
