Miss Grand Vietnam host criticized over remarks on women at press event

During Thursday’s press conference announcing the top 35 finalists, the representative said, “The ones who love beauty the most are probably us men. You women beautify yourselves for us to admire. We are the ones who love beauty, you ladies have beauty pageants because of that.”

The remarks quickly spread across social media and beauty forums, drawing criticism from users who called the statement inappropriate and dismissive of the competition’s celebration of women.

At the same event, the top 35 contestants—each representing a province or city across Vietnam—received official sashes. 

Huynh Pham Doan Trang was honored with the 'Grand Arrival (Inspiration)' award for a performance portraying national heroines. 

Do Thi Tuong Vy earned the 'Best Grand Arrival' title and secured a spot in the top 20.

Organizers also outlined upcoming rounds, including the Vietnam Beauty Fashion Fest on August 30 in Ho Chi Minh City. 

The national costume contest will follow on September 11.

The final event of Miss Grand Vietnam 2025 is set for September 14, when reigning titleholder Vo Le Que Anh will crown her successor.
