According to the Vietnam National Competition Commission, the firm submitted a report detailing a recall program affecting several two-wheeled models sold under the Vespa and Piaggio brands.
During technical research and analysis of the front lighting system, which includes both low-beam and high-beam headlights, Piaggio Vietnam discovered that a capacitor within an electronic circuit supplied by a second-tier manufacturer may not meet the required technical standards.
The company said the defective component could interfere with the operation of the front headlight assembly, potentially causing the low beam, high beam, or both to switch off unexpectedly.
In some cases, related indicators on the instrument panel may also cease functioning.
Piaggio Vietnam asserted that the issue affects only a certain proportion of the motorcycles covered by the recall.
Scooters fitted with the non-compliant component may experience failure of the high-beam system, low-beam system, or both.
The affected models include the Vespa Primavera 125cc, Vespa Sprint 125cc, Vespa Sprint 150cc, and Liberty 125cc.
The firm noted that if both the high and low beams stop working while the motorcycle is being operated in low-light conditions, two front position lights located near the turn signal assembly will remain illuminated.
These lights are intended to help riders identify the malfunction and alert oncoming traffic.
The recall campaign is being carried out through Piaggio Vietnam’s nationwide network of authorized dealers.
The program began on Friday last week and will remain in effect for three months.
Inspection and repair work is expected to take some 20 minutes per motorcycle.
Piaggio Vietnam will cover all costs associated with the replacement, installation, and repair of the affected front lighting components.
The commission has advised owners of Vespa and Piaggio motorcycles manufactured between January and February 2026 to check their vehicle identification numbers against the list of affected units.
Owners whose motorcycles are included in the recall are encouraged to visit the nearest authorized dealer for a free inspection and repair.
Piaggio Vietnam said it would publish details of the recall on its official website and through mass media channels.
The company will also send text messages or notification letters directly to affected customers, providing instructions on the inspection and replacement process.
