The U.S.-based Motorola Mobility, a subsidiary of Chinese technology giant Lenovo, on Wednesday announced its return to Vietnam, unveiling a youthful, modern line-up for consumers.
The brand re-enters the market with the Motorola Razr 60, Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, Moto G86 Power 5G, Moto G35 5G, and Moto G60 Power, with prices ranging from VND2.89 million (US$109.4) to VND18.99 million ($718.6).
Among these, the Razr 60 preserves the familiar clamshell folding style of the earlier Razr models once popular in Vietnam, but comes with a slimmer design and more premium finishing.
All five models are exclusively distributed through Mobile World Investment Corporation, a leading Vietnamese retailer of electronics and smartphones, according to news site Dan Tri.
This move indicates that Motorola is taking a strategic approach to ensure stable sales in the Vietnamese market.
Mahesh Alanthat, business head for Greater Asia Pacific at Motorola Mobility, said Vietnam is a key market in the company’s regional growth strategy due to its dynamic economy and strong technology demand among young consumers.
He emphasized that the launch marks an important milestone for Motorola’s expansion across Asia, spotlighting Vietnam as a vibrant and youthful market central to the company’s Lifestyle Tech vision.
Motorola first entered the Vietnamese market in late 2011, but Lenovo acquired the brand in 2014.
In 2016, Lenovo announced the brand merger, with its products rebranded as ‘Moto by Lenovo,’ a move that reduced the visibility of the original Motorola brand in Vietnam.
At the same time, fierce competition in the Vietnamese smartphone market nearly drove the name out of the country.
However, Lenovo later decided to maintain the iconic Motorola brand globally.
Founded in 1928 in the U.S., Motorola introduced the world’s first mobile phone in 1983.
The brand later gained widespread attention with its Razr series, celebrated for its slim, foldable design.
