The mud spewed nearly one meter high from underground, covering the entire alley and forcing several households to use sandbags to prevent it from entering their homes and pathways.

According to resident Hoang Nam, the incident began around 4:00 pm on Monday.

Immediately after the phenomenon was detected, the project investor, supervising consultant, contractor, and local authorities arrived at the scene to oversee the response.

Relevant units mobilized 30 personnel, five suction trucks, specialized equipment, sandbags, and materials to cordon off the affected area, collect and clean up the erupted mud, and closely monitor all excavation activities.

By 7:40 pm the same evening, the mud eruption caused by the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro excavation was brought under control, according to a press release issued by the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB).

The extracted mud is being transported to a designated waste storage facility at Station S09 – Kim Ma.

Several households in Alley 7 of Giang Van Minh Street received temporary assistance, including accommodation arrangements and business suspension support.

According to MRB, learning from previous incidents, the response to this latest mud eruption was more rapid.

The affected area was promptly isolated and kept within a narrow range.

No casualties or damage to nearby structures or infrastructure were reported.

MRB's preliminary assessment attributes the incident to complex geological conditions in the area, where old water extraction wells and disused drainage systems provided pathways for the mud to rise to the surface.

Tunnel excavation parameters have since been adjusted and meet the conditions to continue construction under close supervision by the consultant and investor.

Lee Young Kyeong, deputy project director and representative of the main contractor for package CP03, said, “We sincerely apologize to the residents of Alley 7, Giang Van Minh Street, for this incident.

“From previous events, we have seriously learned our lessons and strengthened control measures.”

He added that this time, the contractor promptly detected and responded more quickly, mobilizing resources and equipment to isolate and collect the mud, minimizing the impact on residents' daily lives and the surrounding environment.

He is committed to thoroughly reviewing construction methods, enhancing response capabilities, and closely coordinating with local authorities to ensure absolute safety for the community as well as the quality and progress of the project.

This is the fourth time mud has surfaced during the excavation of the underground section of the metro line, affecting local residents.

Previous incidents occurred in February, May, and August 2025.
