An unclothed Vietnamese national was found dead in a hotel in Cheras, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday after he spent a night with a local man who was later arrested pending investigations, Malaysian media reported.
The 23-year-old victim, who arrived in Malaysia on a visitor’s pass last Wednesday, was found dead with stab wounds under the staircase on the first floor of the hotel about 5.30am on July 6 (local time), according to Bernama.
Police seized two knives allegedly used by the 44-year-old suspect, who wore only his underpants and sustained some injuries on his body at the time of his arrest.
ACP Mohan Singh Tara Singh, Cheras police chief, told a press conference at the Alam Damai police station on Saturday that both suspect and victim had checked into a room at 2pm on July 5.
The police chief quoted initial investigations, saying that before the Vietnamese was killed, the two men had been involved in a quarrel and the suspect was from the North of Malaysia and worked as a tour guide.
“We have yet to establish motive or the relationship between the suspect and victim as the suspect is unresponsive. We have not ruled out the possibility that the suspect was high on drugs at the time of the murder,” he told The Star.
The victim’s body has been taken to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre for medical checks.
