On July 2, the VFA received reports that multiple people were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning after having meals at Quynh Nga Chicken Rice restaurant in Cam Ranh Ward, Khanh Hoa Province.
Accordingly, the patients developed symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea after their meals and were taken to Cam Ranh Regional General Hospital for examination and treatment.
The VFA called on Khanh Hoa’s health department to prioritize patient treatment and ensure necessary medical resources to provide timely medical care and prevent further harm to their health.
It also asked local authorities to investigate the incident, trace the source of the suspected contaminated food, collect food and clinical samples for testing to determine the cause, and strictly enforce penalties for any violations of food safety regulations if found.
The agency requested that the investigation results be made public to promptly warn the community.
In addition, the VFA asked local authorities to strengthen inspections and guidance for food service establishments to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, including verifying the origin of ingredients, maintaining hygiene throughout food preparation and transportation, conducting mandatory food safety checks, and retaining food samples as required.
The patients, who are all local residents, told authorities they had eaten at Quynh Nga Chicken Rice restaurant in Cam Ranh Ward before developing symptoms.
According to the Khanh Hoa Department of Health, the patients are in stable condition and are expected to be discharged from the hospital next week.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the suspected food poisoning cases.
