After gathering evidence, police conducted emergency searches at three production and distribution sites linked to the case in Quang Tri and Ho Chi Minh City, along with dozens of retail outlets.
Investigators identified Nguyen Xuan Thanh, 44, residing in Ho Chi Minh City, as the alleged ringleader of the counterfeit coffee operation.
Police said two family members were also directly involved in the scheme, including Thanh’s younger sister Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, 38, and their mother Le Thi Dinh, 64, who lives in Nam Dong Ha Ward in Quang Tri.
Authorities searched Thanh’s residence as well as the home of Dinh and Thuy in Quang Tri, along with several coffee sales locations associated with the network.
During the raids, police confiscated nearly 600 kilograms of fake coffee powder along with thousands of packaging bags printed with various coffee brand labels.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly repackaged the counterfeit coffee powder into bags bearing different brand names before distributing the products to the market for sale.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full scope of the operation and hold those involved accountable.
