Nestlé recalls 17 NAN infant formula batches in Vietnam

Nestlé Vietnam has announced a recall of 17 batches of NAN infant formula after the group identified possible contamination with cereulide, a toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus, in its input materials used for manufacturing in Europe.

According to Nestlé Vietnam, during routine reviews of input materials, Nestle detected a potential quality risk linked to PUFA oil, an ingredient sourced from a third-party supplier and used in very small quantities in certain infant formula products manufactured in Europe.

This ingredient may pose a risk of containing cereulide.

Nestlé emphasized that, to date, there has been no evidence confirming the presence of cereulide in finished products.

However, to ensure the highest level of consumer safety, the company decided to activate a voluntary recall of potentially affected batches, in line with its strict global quality and food safety standards.

The recall covers 17 specific batches across two main product lines: Nestlé NAN INFINIPRO A2 (stages 1, 2, and 3) and Nestlé NAN OPTIPRO PLUS (stages 1 and 2), in 400g and 800g packaging.

Affected batches are identified by product codes printed on the bottom of the cans.

For NAN INFINIPRO A2, the codes include 51240017A1, 51590017A3, and 52520017A2.

For NAN OPTIPRO PLUS, the codes include 51560017C1, 51700017C1, and 51540017A3.

The expiry dates of these batches range from April to September 2027.

Nestlé Vietnam stressed that infant nutrition products bearing different batch codes and all other product lines not listed in the recall still meet quality and safety standards.

Specifically, products such as NAN OptiproPlus (stages 3 and 4), NAN SupremePro (stage 3), S-26 Ultima (stage 3), PreNAN, NAN ExpertPro Lactose Free, NAN ExpertPro Total Comfort, Nutren Junior, Peptamen Junior, and other products distributed by Nestlé Vietnam are not affected and remain safe for use.

The company said the recall reflects its commitment to placing consumer health and safety first, even in cases where only a potential risk has been identified and no actual harm has been recorded in products currently on the market.

Regarding the BEBA and Alfamino products, Nestlé Vietnam stated that it has neither registered product declarations nor self-declared these products.

Besides, it does not distribute them through any channels in Vietnam.

A few days ago, Nestlé began recalling multiple batches of products in Europe.

The recall has widened to Africa, the Americas, and Asia because of possible contamination with cereulide, a toxin that can cause nausea and vomiting.

As of Thursday, at least 37 countries, including most European states, as well as Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico and South Africa, had issued health warnings over the infant formulas possibly being contaminated.
