Vietnam’s prime minister orders quick support for Long An economic zone establishment

Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved a plan to establish the Long An economic zone in the namesake province, and asked relevant ministries and agencies to help the Mekong Delta locality complete procedures as soon as possible.

The prime minister stressed that the Ministry of Planning and Investment must complete relevant procedures for the establishment of the economic zone at their earliest convenience.

Speaking at a meeting with the prime minister in Long An Province on Tuesday afternoon, a leader of the provincial People’s Committee proposed that the central government and the premier allow the province to set up the economic zone in Can Giuoc and Can Duoc Districts.

The project matches the province’s development plan passed by the national government, and it will stand at the gateway connecting Ho Chi Minh City and other Mekong Delta localities, according to the Long An leader.

It will enjoy an advantage of a network of inland waterway, seaway, and roadway transport, and back the industrial-urban-service economic development in the region.

Potential local and foreign investors have shown much interest in the economic zone project.

Given its potential for socio-economic growth, PM Chinh and other top officials threw their weight behind the project.

In addition, the prime minister agreed to other proposals on capital allocation for expressway, road, and embankment projects in the province.

PM Chinh also asked Long An to actively increase budget collection and reduce spending to finance some key projects.
